Will I Be a Victim Tomorrow? Looking At The Stats

Will I Be a Victim Tomorrow?

The “thing” About Defensive Tactics

The thing about defensive tactics is that you don’t need it until you absolutely need it. Often times, many find themselves in uncertain and dangerous situations, and they do not know what to do, or how to even protect themselves. Learning defensive tactics training as an everyday citizen not only adds to our understanding of self-defense, but also gives us another avenue to save our own life, especially in our world we currently find ourselves in. But how do we begin training in defensive tactics? What can this training even provide for you?  Quite simply, it can save not only your life, but those you truly care about.

Thankfully, we do have the opportunity to prevent chances of victimization, while also creating a foundation of training that allows us to protect ourselves and our families.

Current Stats

In 2023, Wichita, Kansas, experienced an increased in both property crimes and violent crimes amongst citizens, with a violent crime rate of approximately 11.5 per 1000 citizens. When we look at other staggering crimes, about 1 in 4 women will experience severe intimate partner domestic violence crimes, while men are averaging 1 in 9 of experiencing domestic violence, and an overall 10 million people experience domestic violence collectively.

So, what does this mean? Taking a closer look at both local and national violent crime statistics, there is a staggering increase in these violent offenses, with little to no signs of stopping. Progressing into 2025, we have a greater chance of being a involved in these violent physical acts, and we have to understand that these violent acts can happen to you.

Could I be a victim next?

Unfortunately, I cannot tell you when you will be a victim in a physical altercation, but rather, would tell you to train for every uncertain tomorrow. Often times, we as law-abiding citizens are targets of violent criminals naturally by our appearance to be an “easy victim” and the common notion that we cannot protect ourselves. Additional considerations we must think about in our everyday life when utilizing a firearm for self-defense, are the legal restraints in place we must follow that prevent us from defending ourselves and family with a firearm at public events such as concerts, shopping venues, and sports events.

We do have the ability to reduce our chances of being a victim in a physical altercation, with good practices of being aware of our environment with those in it, taking consideration in how late we stay out, and removing ourselves if we can sense a situation is getting out of control. However, what do we do when potential attackers simply do not care, or allow us to leave the situation? We MUST protect and defend ourselves and families.

Be Your Own First Responder

In the year 2024, the average response time by law enforcement averages between five and ten minutes. Unfortunately, in larger metropolitan cities across the United States, these response times are only getting longer, and even reaching an alarming 16 minutes +. Factors beyond our control like departmental budget issues and staffing issues negatively affect the public, and in this case, longer response times to help citizens. What can we do? We can become our own first responder. Having the ability to defend ourselves in physical altercations is priceless and can also be the singular factor in getting home to our loved ones safely. Seeking training in areas like defensive tactics is not only a great skill to understand and learn for ourselves, but also a personal responsibility we undertake to our children, loved ones, and those who cannot protect themselves, and rely on us to defend and protect them.

The Bottom Line

Don’t be a victim. Being in a physical altercation is extremely dangerous, and quite honestly, scary. Unfortunately, we cannot select the time or place a potential attack can occur, and often times, it occurs when we are least expecting it. We are having to experience a traumatic physical altercation and “hope” we can make it out alive.  What if we want more than just “hoping” it works out? We can seek training ourselves that teaches us to defend and protect not only ourselves, but our family and friends. Our goal at Rainier Arms Firearms Academy is to properly train individuals to protect themselves both in firearms training and defensive tactics training, so we can quite simply, make it home safe, and be present tomorrow for those we truly love and care about.
